About us
Values
One of the most important things we do is uphold our values: We are LGBTQIA2+-inclusive and -friendly. Black lives matter. We are welcoming of neuro-diversity. We punch up, not down.
We are intolerant of intolerance. We openly welcome those that share our values; we welcome those who don't, as long as they don't impinge upon those values.
Organization
Preposterous Productions (the organization behind Preposterous Improv), is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to comedy and theater arts in Arizona.
We've had a grand old time meeting all the lovely improv folks in Phoenix – who invariably meet us with incredulous looks, exclaiming, "You drove from Florence???" in the same tone you'd describe someone just returning from a quick jaunt over to Brussels. We saw a need to be filled (and hopefully, less often, our gas tank) by bringing improv closer to home.
Who we are
Artistic Director Kaitlyn Concilio [she/her] is a seasoned improv performer who got her start in college and got her reps in at the Blue Door Theatre in Spokane, Washington, before moving to Florence. Kaitlyn loves getting up on stage and doing fun make-'em-ups, but also has a passion for technical improv.
Executive Director Joan Concilio [they/them] has been doing improv and scripted theater regularly since high school. They were a box office manager and reservations director for BDT, in addition to their work behind the scenes as a writer for various theaters back East.
Director Jose Gonazales [he/him/él] is a Phoenix native who helped found Arizona’s first nonprofit improv theater, The Torch Theatre, in 2007 and was deeply involved there through 2021. Over two decades, he has taught and performed in numerous festivals and events with groups like Galapagos, VerizonQwest, and Umlautilde, all across North America and parts of Europe. Jose performs regularly in and around Phoenix at the Bridge Improv Theater, NCT Phoenix, and Second Beat Improv Theater and offers improv shows and classes via Monster Improv, which is Jose’s own little DIY record label but for improv.
Director Tiffany Harms [she/her] has been making 'em laugh since before she learned to talk and has been keeping 'em in stitches ever since, with theater experience on- and off-stage since middle school.
Director Annica Eagle lives and breathes comedy, performance, advocacy, and puns. She's a world-champion punner; she founded and runs The Punderground, a monthly-ish punning competition in Spokane; and performs with the Blue Door Theater improv troupe.
